New Hawker Sea Hawk for FS2004 (WIP)

Hello all,

it's been a while since I last posted on here, but I thought I'd show you what I've working on since then. I've started building a Hawker Sea Hawk in Gmax which is my first modelling project. It's almost finished, and so far I have painted a Fleet Air Arm scheme from the Suez crisis, WV797, which is also on display at the Midland Air Musem in Coventry, UK.

Here's what I've got so far:

Nazca Steve... how did I miss this post? I am sorry about that, this is certainly fine looking modeling and texture work! Did you include a virtual cockpit?

Re: New Hawker Sea Hawk for FS2004 (WIP)

Hello chaps,

yes, it is the first time I've modelled something - quite a scary undertaking, but it had to be done. There is no virtual cockpit, and indeed, no 2D one yet either, but I will be tackling the latter shortly. I won't be doing a VC for this first model, as it has been enough just to handle the external model.

It is nearing beta though, so check Hawker Sea Hawk for FS2004 by Steven Beeny for details! The site doesn't seem to work well in IE, but is fine in Firefox and Safari. Apologies for that it - it is still WIP.

Cheers,

Steve

Wow Steve, this plane looks amazing, however, when following your link in either IE or Firefox, I do get to th epage, but all links are dead?
Can this plane still be downloaded? And will there be a paintkit in due time?
Working on some Dutch Navy packs and a Sea Hawk would fit nicely...

Hello Polleke,

thanks for your interest, and yes, the links are dead at the moment as the site is under construction and the beta test is not yet ready. I will update the site to make it clearer.

There will be a paintkit after the main release happens, and currently there is one paintwork for a Dutch FGA.50, but I will probably do one more in the earlier colours.

Steve

yeah, great work, i can afford to be pick here, she looks a bit too shiny for a combat aircraft, moat were matt paint or semi-gloss, you don't want sun reflecting off you as you turn and giving away your position, is the tailhook workable if so means i can get to doing what i do best, trapping and launching

Re: New Hawker Sea Hawk for FS2004 (WIP)

Believe it or not, but in the post-war era many Dutch Navy aircraft were actually painted in gloss or semi gloss, unlike the Airforce aircraft.
Reason for this was (I've been told) that color paints is less subject to corrosion as salt water slides off more easily due to it's smooth surface, then from matt or even semi-gloss... (same they do with preserved aircraft nowadays to slow down environmental influences)
Still, taking the above into consideration, semi-gloss would be the best pick as that would fit old and new era Navy aircraft, so to me, this paint looks pretty accurate, very much acceptabel I would say!

Polleke has summed it up perfectly about the gloss finish. I have since toned the gloss down a touch to more of a semi-gloss...indeed, these posts are a bit outdated now and I need to get some new ones on here. It's easier to visit the web site if you want the updated info:
