New to FSX Skinning - Please need help

HI Guys,

My name is Mario and I have been skinning IL2 and Rise of Flight airplanes up until now. I'm nnow looking into repainting FSX Airplanes and I need help. I have photoshop CS3 with the Nvidia plugin to save fiels in the .dds format. I would like to know what are the steps to be taken and what are the needed software that I need to be able to do a good job on my airplanes. I would really appreciate a few pointers as well.

Are there photoshop templates for FSX airplanes anywhere ? It hard to work from a .dds file cause it produce a locked layers file to work with. Or does anybody know a trick to unlock the file in photoshop ?

Hi and welcome to SPS!

The proper templates with layers should be available from the same people who built the aircraft itself. Ask them if they offer one you can work with.

The .dds files do not (so far as I remember) contain layers outside the alpha masks.

As for software, I think CS3 and the nVidia plugin are probably among the best.

Thanks Adlbs6, I'll see what I can do. I'm using Win7 64 bit with cs3 and when I tried to install the Mac's remove white plugin, I have a .dll error. Do you know how to solve this cause I would really like to have the Remove white working.

Hi Mario,

Check this link and see if the file there matches the error you are getting. It might be the solution you need. Remember not to overwrite any existing files.
