Template Layers

I've noticed that Templates come with "multiple layers" of cammo for instance. In order to have the cammo pattern that I want. Is deleting the unwanted layers the correct proceedure? If I were to work on one layer and delete the others. Or is there an other way?

Re: Template Layers

Sure, you can delete them. Or just hide them, using the hide buttons on the layer stack. That way if you wish to refer to them layer, you can simply 'unhide' the desired layer.

Re: Template Layers

O.K. but when I'm finished and ready to add the skin to the game. I know which layers I want, Should I delete the layers that I don't want? I save the unzipped template in a file for further use, so I'm not loosing anything.

Re: Template Layers

You can do that, it just depends on how each artist likes to work. I hardly ever delete any layers though, I guess I worry I might want something from them later.

Makes my saved files pretty big though!

EDIT: Also remember that any hidden layers in your file will not be exported to the BMP when you save for the game, so even if they are hidden, they won't interfere.

Re: Template Layers

Like adlabs, I'd make them invisible. It's allways nice to keep old layers that can be usefull later.

Re: Template Layers

O.k. how do I hide a layer? Also, a couple of templates I have, have "read only" so when I try to save a finished project, It cannot and I have to, "Change the Read Only status in Windows Explorer". How?

Re: Template Layers

How do I change the "Read Only" status of a template so I can save my changes?

Re: Template Layers

In the properties of the file in the Windows explorer. You get there by rightclicking on the file. Uncheck the "read only" attribute.

Another possability is to use "Save as" from Photoshop and save a new copy of it.
