Rivetting.

All right I have this little dilemma of mine.... riveting - should I do it with paths or directly drawing little rivets with pen tool?
If I do it via paths somewhere I get little incorrectness, but on a good side, I can always stroke that path with all kinds of lines, but once when I draw rivets that's it, the only way to change it is to delete and do again.

What are your thoughts about it?

Re: Rivetting.

The answer to the question is; It's all up to you
Really, you're the only one to decide which way you like best.

I know what you mean by "little incorrectness". If you had the luxury of a really large file with millions of pixels you wouldn't have this problem too much.
What I've been doing, and it's time consuming, is actually making 1 pixel squares and doing a line of them across the whole file. I use those with a combination of clone tool and copy/paste and rotate for horizantal and vertical. For angled lines I use skew transformation because it holds the shape best. Using rotate to get an angle with the pixels seems to brake them up too much.
I use paths for any curved stuff left over.

Re: Rivetting.

Hey thanks for your reply... I think I'll go with pencil tool... it is a bit harder way, but it isn't too demanding since I work on FB template. It'll take perhaps two-three days (few hours a day)
and everything should be ok.

Re: Rivetting.

well, I'm using for rivets.... typography. (Arial without AA, 14pt size, 100% spacing works fine and hit just the "." )

after "painting" a line I rasterize the layer and transform it with "crtl + t"

Re: Rivetting.

DAMN EBO! You're the best! I had completely forgotten about the font thing. Plus, with my penchant for paths I could just convert the text to a path and there you go I'll be trying that next time.
Have you tried paths with the text for your curved rivet lines?
How about a tutorial? Please?

Re: Rivetting.

Serval uploaded one of my tutorials too ... I've been using the pencil tool too. My eraser trick - for 3px spaces between rivets - doesnt work in PSP X or XI but does work in 9.

The best thing is to get used to the copy/paste system. IIRC in 9 you can create a line of 'rivets' then select them & use CTL+arrow keys to duplicate & move them 1px at a time. CTL+SHF+arrow keys moves them 10px ... or something I've forgotten now but you get the idea ... XI has the same system but uses different keys Yes, it's time consuming. My tutorial shows you how to cut down the time a little ... if you do rivets the way I do that is

Re: Rivetting.

To be honest, my memory doesn't work any more. Loammo used the text method too. He told me that one a long time ago :P
I've inhaled too many paint fumes I think

Re: Rivetting.

I'm putting together a tutorial on my experiences with paths in GIMP, should be ready in the coming week or so.
