A matter of colour codes

Which colours would be the correct ones to use as green and grey?



I did use the Dark green 89-92-78, but it looks too light to me.

Unless more is known about this particular plane it's hard to say. This looks like a standard USAAF scheme, it might be OD and gray. You'd need to know if the RAF imported any B-25s with US paint schemes to be sure.
My gut reaction would be to paint it as USAAF OD 85/79/68 and gray 128/129/135 but that's a guess.

When they are painted in the US then at best you have US equivalents of the RAF colors. But since this aircraft doesn't have a standard RAF scheme, and it is from US origin, I'm with Blowhard. Standard US colors look best to me.

Yes, the US planes in British camouflage were painted in the US, and usually with colors either slightly or drastically different from British specification. Especially where Sky is concerned, the US version of that color was a light neutral gray :P

Do you have any photos of it? Not like you could tell for sure but US and RAF painting differed a little, maybe it's enough to tell which?

No photos as it's gonna be a fantacy RAF paint for the B-29.
Reason I used the B-25 above is that I imagine if the RAF has been receiving B-29's it would have been in the same paint scheme.

The explanation by both of you makes a lot of sense and explains why the B-25 was painted in this non-standard RAF scheme.

So it's gonna be standard US scheme then .

ahh but didn't the B-29 enter late in the war and as a result went unpainted, and i know for certain the RAF DID use B-29's under the codename 'Washington'.



B-29s were named Boeing Washington B.1 in RAF Service. Eighty-seven B-29s served on loan with RAF Bomber Command from 1950 as a longer-range nuclear-capable bomber pending the introduction of the English Electric Canberra in quantity.
Most Washingtons had been returned by 1955 although two or three remained in the UK as gunnery targets.

In fact not all the aircraft were B-29 bombers, three aircraft were RB-29s, the dedicated reconnaissance/ELINT version. These aircraft were part 192 Sqn at RAF Watton.

The ELINT Washington’s flew sorties around Baltic, Black and Caspian Seas, monitoring Russian signal transmissions. Occasional sorties were also mounted along Russia’s Northern border with Norway.

None of the ELINT Washington’s were ever shot down, but they were intercepted by Russian fighter aircraft a number of times, mainly over the Black Sea area.

Washington wasn't that the RAAF, at least from what I have heard. Could be mis-informed though .

looks nice, although i do have a soft spot for the bare metal beasties. bit nonetheless shes nice. washington is the RAF's moniker for it. i forget what the Aussies used but it might be the same.
