My first profile

Hello I am back and maybe more constant in my appearances This is my first attempt at doing a profile and I have chosen to do an Polikarpov I-16 Type 5. This is a very very early WIP. I am using photoshop CS3 and am having a mapping issue or something I am getting bumpy and jagged images. as you can see my spinner, wheels, tail and number 4 are jagged and not smooth. I am sure as I tinker about I will figure it out, I just aquired ADOBE CS3....maybe. Anyhow, advice would be greatley appreciated.

Black 4 as flown by Mai. S. Proparenko commander of 162 IAP during 1936.

Re: My first profile

How did you make your selections? Outline the entire process, I am thinking you used the magic wand tool Using shapes to make your selections is much more effective.

Re: My first profile

actually it's funny, at 25%, 50% and 100% viewing there's no distortion.....

Re: My first profile

Hi Kidcan, That's normal. If a Photoshop image is viewed on-screen at anything other than 25, 50, 100, 200, 400%, it does weird stuff. It has to do with the number of pixels the program is trying to display in a given space not matching the number of pixels in the original. When this happens it interpolates (guesses) what is there and you end up with jagged lines.

I hope this Helps.

Grubby

Re: My first profile

It shouldn't affect printing either. My A4 prints are about 30% of the original image size and show no signs of the jags I get on screen when viewing an image that is 30% of the original. It is, as grubby says, a limit on the computer's ability to display.

Re: My first profile

If you use the magic wand, set its tolerance to about 60 before you use it.
This will help reduce the jags in your selection.

Re: My first profile

Hey Kid
Any chance you could shoot a detail screen at 100%?

Re: My first profile

I hope your I-16's fuselage is not white? Painting a white a/c is much trickier and maybe a bit too much of an undertaking for a first try. Anyway, good luck: will be looking forward to more.

Re: My first profile

as its a rounded fuselage, apply a bit of Burning to the top of the fuselage, that way it shows A) the fuselage is rounded and B) it shows up on a white (255/255/255) background
