Simmers Paint Shop Showcase 2007

The last year has seen a very many fine screenshots and profiles posted to the forums of Simmers Paint Shop. For the new year of 2007, our intention is to offer a showcase gallery for artists wishing to enter their work, and have it voted on by our members to choose their favorites. From the results of this poll, the highest scoring artworks will move into a final round of voting, which the Simmers Paint Shop Showcase 2007 winner will be chosen.

When can I enter?

Starting now, all submissions will go into the 'Showcase 2007' gallery, and will be accepted through late summer 2007. Voting by members (yes this is YOU!) will be open throughout the same period.

What artworks can you enter?

The Showcase 2007 entries can be in the categories of 'enhanced screenshots' and 'original profiles'. Each of these two categories will be separately voted on in the final round.

Edited screenshots rules:
  • The image must be based on an original screenshot taken by the submitting artist.
  • The image must show some artistic value through editing.
  • Any skins in screenshots used must credit those authors.
Original profile rules:
  • The profile must be an original artwork created by the submitting artist.
Can I enter more than once?
Yes. During the first voting session, every author may enter more than one work in either category. However, each author's highest rated work will be their only image to contiue to the final round.

What can you win?

Announcements on any prizes will come later in the year. Right now we're working on a couple of ideas. More than likely the winning entries will be featured on the main Simmers Paint Shop page, along with their respective information.

Anything else I should know?

Yes. I'll keep this simple. Any submissions that aren't the works of the submitting authors will be simply disqualified and discarded. Simmers Paint Shop staff members and moderators will not enter the contests, but will actively join in the voting. In case of some unforseen dispute that is at present unimaginable... one of the Simmers Paint Shop staff will use the highly controversial, possibly biased, and definitely final method of rapping his fingers on his chin... and deciding the answer.

Anywork you like to submit to the competition should be uploaded to the Gallery Showcase - 2007: SUBMIT HERE
And to everyone: RATE THE PICTURES

Re: Simmers Paint Shop Showcase 2007

Very very cool idea!!!!

I uploaded 2 pictures so far
But I see the quality gets worse due to resizing during the upload, does this influence the judgement of the pic? 'cause the original looks far better

Re: Simmers Paint Shop Showcase 2007

The users judge, so it depends on how they view.
De smaller version looks less good indeed. So, everyone is advised to view the large version before voting.

Maximum image size is 1280x1280. So stay below those sizes.
And everyone suffers from the same resizing of the site, so in the end I think it won't make too much difference.

I made some changes to the Gallery.
You don't see the empty comments anymore. So you cannot see what other voted anymore, unless they gave a comment to the image.

Re: Simmers Paint Shop Showcase 2007

Damn...I wish I had time to do some real purpose made art here, all I've got are things already done for other occasions...
The competition is REALLY great and I'm feeling left out
Maybe I need to set aside some time to do something just for this?

Well you've got time to work on something Blowhard, we've not set a closing date yet, but it's going through the summer I'd say.

Re: Simmers Paint Shop Showcase 2007

Thanks iart I guess the old remedial Targetware terrain and complete lack of dramatic lighting lets those pictures down. See what Ebola did with his lighting?
Maybe before this contest is up I'll try and do something just for this

BTW, the submissions are looking REALLY good, congratulations to everyone who has submitted
