GIMP 2.4 is out

The newest version of Gimp is out, 2.4. Quite a lot of improvements have been made to it. More information and screenshots of the new features and changes can be read at GIMP 2.4 Release Notes

Got it a few days ago too. Very nice improvements. It still has that Wacom Bamboo bugaboo.Still being hashed out in forums. It is still a great program for the price.

Photoshop elements= $ 130 Cdn
Photoshop CS3 V10= $ 815 Cdn

and thats with the CDn dollar at 1.05 US. Figure that one out.

It is a little different in minor ways, but nothing too serious. The only thing I didn't like was the free-type editor plugin wasn't included in the new version. I have never used the "stock" text tool, simply because this plugin allows you to modify the text and then render it with better results.
All you have to do is redownload an old version (unless you still have your old Gimp) and move the freetype file from GIMP-2.0\lib\gimp\2.0\plug-ins and copy it into the same folder in your new Gimp. There is a .dll file that is supposed to go with it, but oddly enough it is already included with the new Gimp.

a nice pack of 44 effects/Scripts/plugins for GIMP 2.4. Just copy scripts in gimpfx-foundry folder (minus the release manifest file) and paste into C/Documents and settings/user/gimp-2.4/scripts. A FX-Foundry tab is added to your top menu bar.
